How White Supremacy Tried To Divide The Black and Asian-American Communities
ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW: Creating a booklet based off a SOCIAL CAUSE / POLITICAL CAUSE / HUMANITARIAN ISSUE / Environmental Issue.
I chose to do my project based off of a video essay entitled "how the Asian 'Model Minority' perpetuates 'Anti-Blackness'." In this video, the creator does a deep dive on both the Asian and Black communities, respectively, and explains the historical roles they've played in American society as a whole. The creator then discusses how white supremacy has actively and systemically tried to pit the two against each other by defining one group as more 'White' qualifying than the other. I also wanted to note to my viewers that I have cited some quotes from said footage to summarise it beautifully:
> "It is white supremacy's tactic of offering Asian-Americans 'Non-Blackness' while still gate-keeping 'White-ness'." - [00:24:36]
> "If we can see racial conflict, not as between "White" and "Black", or "Black" and "Asian", but between "White" and "non-White". - [00:37:17]
> "[. . .] Racism is like a river and we are all in it. Some of us are up to our necks in the river of racism. Others try to wade to shore. But even if we make it to the banks of the river, we still have the river water on us." - [00:37:35]
